I was just at Best Buy a little while ago, dinking around on the in-store computers (loads of fun and a great way to lose track of time, by the way) and I became aware of repititious remixed music assaulting my aural orifices (ears). It wasn't so much the song (Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through The Grapevine) but the fact it was being played on one of those now-ubiquitous Rock/DJ/Guitar Hero/Band games on display in the crowded store. I love the original, but adding a funky beat and scratching and sampling it turns it into a sonic nightmare. It wasn't just Marvin who was to suffer the indignities of having his work become an aural mess, The Beastie Boys were next with "Sabotage" being torn to ribbons, followed by Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl". Actually, that last one was kinda improved by the treatment. So maybe the game manufacturers should just stick with music that's appropriate to turntablism. Just as you wouldn't want to hear Rihanna take on Zeppelin's "Black Dog" or hear a version of "MacArthur Park" by Metallica. Although if you want hear bastardised music par excellence, you should listen to two albums....
Pat Boone's In A Metal Mood... No More Mr. Nice Guy whence comes this track...

and Paul Anka's Rock Swings in which he takes on such diverse acts as Oasis, Van Halen, Spandau Ballet, The Cure, REM, and you've gotta hear his take on NIRVANA!! Here's the link:
